CANBERRA BIENNIAL 2007 THEME
Winning by Design: Designing for Sport in 21C
Winning is a space, time, and body equation, and design for winning
is about creating the best technology and conditions for a personal best
performance.
The relationship between the sport and spectacle has seen sports people,
sporting facilities, accessories and attributes join that pantheon of
stardom once the place of museums, couture, and celebrities.
It has been estimated that as much will be spent on sport’s
infrastructure in 21C as was spent on industrialisation in 19C, making
sport a major attractor in urban regeneration for business, cultural
activities, and tourists. In fact cities around the world are competing
with each other to use sport to brand themselves for international
consumption.
The 2007 Canberra Biennial will explore what/why/how winning in sport is
driven by design.
